Leader Scholarship Fund

Governor George Leader was born in York County in 1918. His term as Governor of Pennsylvania in the 1950’s was the highlight of his life. He was a champion for those with disabilities as well as education and worked hard to bring about positive change in both areas. Mr. Leader was a man of convictions and was not always right, but when he believed in something he fought to the end to achieve his objective.

He started his Leader Nursing Centers in 1962 to provide a better option for senior health care in Pennsylvania. His interest in nursing began with this venture. Mr. Leader was very interested in providing education for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN’s) and employed many of them in his nursing homes.
