Joseph C. Shevock Fund

This scholarship fund was established in 1984 by the family of Joseph C. Shevock, a teacher and coach in Steelton. Scholarships are awarded annually to two students who reflect Mr. Shevock’s ideals.

Scholarship FAQ

Criteria

  1. Student must be a graduating senior of Steelton-Highspire High School planning to continue formal education at a four-year college or university 
  2. One award will be for a senior with outstanding ability and performance in a sport 
  3. One award will be for a senior with interest, participation and involvement with sports 
  4. Academic Achievement 
  5. Student should contain personal traits or characteristics reminiscent of Joseph C. Shevock – such as character, sense of values and purpose and perseverance 
  6. Financial need 
  7. Interview 
  8. Essay
  9. Supplemental documents. This may include a resume, letter(s) of recommendation, transcript, FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR), or other scholarship-specific documents. Specific requirements are noted in the application.

Essay

Describe your sense of values, purpose, and perseverance. 300 words maximum. 

Interview Questions

  1. What sports are you involved in? 
  2. What have you learned about life from playing sports? 
  3. Where do you plan to attend college? 
  4. How will you pay for college? 
  5. Who is your role model and why? 
  6. What will you miss at Steelton-Highspire? What won’t you miss? 

Renewability

This scholarship will automatically renew for up to 4 years provided that the student maintains a minimum 2.5 GPA and continues to have financial need. Student must submit their transcript and tuition bill each semester for renewal of the award.
