HARRISBURG, PA — The Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC) announced $507,196.89 in grants have been awarded to 92 Greater Harrisburg and surrounding area nonprofit organizations through competitive grant opportunities. Awarded projects will commence between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024.
Grant recipients are registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations or utilize a fiscal sponsor. After a careful review of numerous grant submissions, the following were awarded funding for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
Benjamin Franklin Trust Fund – A grant initiative of the Greater Harrisburg Community Foundation, a regional foundation of TFEC, supports programs and services that work to increase the knowledge, quality of life, or inspire positive outcomes for individuals and families living in the service area of Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Juniata, Mifflin, Lebanon, and Perry Counties, and/or the Dillsburg area of York County.
Benjamin Franklin Trust Fund awarded a total of $3,474 to 3 organizations for supporting key initiatives:
Central Perry Community Senior Citizen’s Center ($1,432), Perry County Council of the Arts ($1,432), United Cerebral Palsy of Central Pennsylvania ($610).
The Fund for Women & Girls – A special initiative of TFEC, the mission is to broaden the awareness of and response to issues affecting women and girls through the power of collective philanthropy.
The Fund for Women & Girls award $60,000 to 15 organizations:
Boys & Girls Club of Chambersburg and Shippensburg ($1,500), Boys & Girls Club of Harrisburg ($4,000), Brethren Housing Association ($4,000), Bridge of Hope Harrisburg Area ($5,000), Community CARES ($2,500), Community Check Up Center of South Harrisburg ($5,000), Cumberland Valley Breast Cancer Alliance, Inc. ($4,000), Girls on the Run Mid State PA ($4,000), Girls on the Run Lancaster-Lebanon ($4,000), Greenlight Operation ($5,000), Health Steps Diaper Bank ($6,000), Lebanon Valley Volunteers in Medicine ($8,000), Perry County Literacy Council ($4,000), Shape of Justice, Inc. ($1,000), and YWCA Carlisle & Cumberland County ($2,000).
Madden Family Foundation Fund – A fund of TFEC, offers an annual competitive grant opportunity to any nonprofit that supports disadvantaged mothers with children.
Madden Family Foundation Fund awarded a total of $49,688 to 10 organizations:
Blue Mountain Escape, Inc. ($4,750), Christian Life Church ($5,000), Evolve Youth Trades Academy ($5,000), Keystone Service Systems ($5,000), Keystones Oral Histories ($5,000), Lebanon Valley Family YMCA ($5,000), Newport Assembly of God Church ($5,000), Perry County Literacy Council ($4,938), Summer Program for Youth ($5,000), and YWCA Carlisle & Cumberland County ($5,000).
Martin M. Sacks Memorial Fund – A fund of TFEC, offers an annual competitive grant opportunity to any nonprofit that supports youth and family-oriented programs and services that are consistent with the mission of the applicant organization.
Martin M. Sacks Memorial Fund awarded a total of $9,600 to 12 organizations:
AJB Drug and Alcohol Mentoring Services ($1,000), Beahive Affordable Housing Outreach, Inc. ($600), Boys & Girls Club of Harrisburg ($600), Evolve Youth Trades Academy ($600), Gamut Theatre Group, Inc. ($1,000), HANNA’s Pantry, Inc. ($1,000), Healthy Steps Diaper Bank ($1,000), Nathaniel Gadsdens Writers Wordshop ($1,000), Newport Assembly of God Church ($600), PennCares ($600), St. Stephen’s Episcopal School ($600), and TFEC ($1,000).
GHCF Upstream – A grant initiative of the Greater Harrisburg Community Foundation, a regional foundation of TFEC, provides funding to nonprofits that improve our area communities by supporting existing or new “upstream” systems, interventions, programs, or projects that attempt to create positive social change by addressing a problem at its source rather than managing its “downstream” symptoms.
Upstream awarded a total of $384,434.89 to 52 organizations for supporting key initiatives:
